While there are a lot of vape pens in the market that can be used portable. However, very few come remotely close to the sheer compactness of the Pulsar Flow. Given its small size, it would be all too easy to dismiss the Pulsar Flow as a basic pick up and go dry herb starter kit. The truth is it's got quite the number of features hidden underneath its belt. A wide range of selectable temperature presets for starters, as well as a full-fledged convection chamber heating up a quartz-lined chamber are just a few of the surprises the Pulsar Flow has got in store.
Key Features of the Pulsar Flow
Contrary to what most what might assume due to its size, the Pulsar Flow is packing a true-blue convection oven underneath its hood. It's a lot more than what bigger and less featured devices can offer.
The Pulsar Flow also goes the extra mile by incorporating a quartz lined chamber making for practically instantaneous heating up and cooling down of your dry herb. While ceramic chambers are popular for their great flavor production, they tend to stay hot a lot longer even when the device is already turned off, potentially baking leftover bud in the chamber.
Given its diminutive size, it would be easy to assume that the Pulsar Flow would typically operate at a fixed output. Well, think again because this device has a temperature range of 356°F-428°F making it quite the portable powerhouse. With the Pulsar Flow's capability to select from 5 temperature presets, you'll never feel that you're short of options when vaporizing your herb.
- Simple operation
- Automatic device shut down after session
- Quartz lined chamber produces great tasting vaporizing
- Magnetic lid makes for quick and easy loading and maintenance
- Five temperature presets to choose from
- Heat up time isn't not bad, but it's not the fastest among the competition
With temperature presets ranging from a low of 356°F all the way to a high of 428°F, the Pulsar Flow is equipped with pretty much everything you would need from a portable vaporizer. Most if not all vaporizers that share similar size specifications to the Pulsar Flow fire at a single fixed output and while these are fine for basic use, more discerning vapers might feel a lack of options. The Pulsar Flow avoids this common pitfall by providing temperature presets at 356°F, 374°F, 392°F, 410°F, and 428°F, giving you a wide variety of options to vape your herb.
Vapor Quality - Quartz Lined Herb Chamber
While most portable vaporizers are able to provide great tasting vapor, the Pulsar Flow still manages to stand out thanks to its quartz lined chamber. It provides an almost unparalleled vapor quality in its size category. In fact, it's not that far-fetched to claim that the vapor quality of the Pulsar Flow even comes close to the standard of desktop vaporizers thanks to its accurate and precise temperature presets.
Another winning aspect of the Pulsar Flow is its use of a genuine convection to achieve true even distribution of heat within the chamber, ensuring that all your herb is heated and vaporized consistently without any niggling hot or cold spots. Aside from providing a better and more consistent vapor, this also makes the chamber less of a chore to load as there's less of a need to be meticulous when it comes to grinding and packing herb in the chamber.
If there was a single word that could be used to describe the aesthetic design of the Pulsar Flow, its “unconventional”. The device manages to veer away from the typical vape pen design and instead goes for a tapered look not that much different from a highly futuristic whistle. Despite its compact size, all of the device's features are easily viewed and accessed without your fingers feeling confused or cramped.
The magnetic lid holds just the right amount of tension so that the cover doesn't come off too easily, while still being easy to remove when required. The Pulsar flow is mainly available in a black colorway with a chrome-like trim on the edges giving it a stealthy yet stylish look although there are other options available as well such a beautiful oak wood grain and a carbon fiber design.
Innovative Cooling Path
One of the major selling points of the Pulsar Flow is its unique take on airflow design. While most vaporizers often take a short and direct route with the herb chamber being located right next to the mouthpiece, the Pulsar Flow has the herb chamber and mouthpiece on opposite ends of the device, which helps produce and deliver a much cooler and comfortable vapor. But does the design work in practice? The answer is yes, and it pays off in dividends and the Pulsar Flow manages to keep each vaping session relatively cool both for your lungs and your lips.
While the Pulsar Flow doesn't exactly use the strongest or highest rated battery available in the market, at 1600mAh, it still manages to deliver a slightly above average experience in terms of longevity. Lasting around 2-4 hours depending on your preferred temperature setting and the frequency of your sessions, it's definitely more than enough for a full day's worth of personal use. Charging the Pulsar Flow is done through the device's micro USB port and reaching a full charge is possible within 2 hours or less of charging, a reasonable amount of downtime in between charging cycles.
Ease of Use
Thanks to the Pulsar Flows magnetic lid over the chamber, loading the device with herb is the epitome of easy. The convection chamber helps in this regard as well as you don't have to be as careful when packing the herb thanks to the more even distribution of heat.
The Pulsar Flow also uses a one-button design making operation of the device relatively simple. An array of 5 LED lights located next to the button keeps things simple, easily letting you know the device's current battery life as well as the currently selected temperature preset so that you're always in the know when vaping with the Pulsar Flow.
Cleaning the Pulsar Flow
Like most dry herb vaporizer kits, the Pulsar Flow comes with a handy set of cleaning tools to help you get started in keeping your device in tip-top shape. A cleaning brush is included, perfect for dusting debris or leftover herb from the chamber. The included alcohol-free wipes can then be used to put the finishing touches on the chamber, making it look brand new after every cleaning.
In the occasion that you feel that the mouthpiece has become clogged, simply snap it off and soak in warm soapy water for a few minutes until you see that most of the debris has been dislodged from its insides. After soaking, simply rinse off and dry the mouthpiece so that its ready for your next session.
How to Use
When working with a brand-new device out of the box, it's important to give it a good cleaning to ensure that there isn't any leftover machine oil from the manufacturing process. In order to accomplish this, it’s best to charge the Pulsar Flow first for a good 6-8 hours before turning it on for the first time. Turn the device on by pressing on the power button on the side 5 times, then select the highest temperature preset by holding the button until all 5 LED indicators are lit up. Allow the device to cycle off automatically after its 5 minute session time after which repeat the process 3-4 more times to ensure that the chamber and vapor path of the Pulsar Flow are completely sterilized and safe for vaping.
To use the Pulsar Flow, simply pop open the magnetic lid and load your preferred herb in the quartz lined chamber. While this can be done by hand, the Pulsar Flow kit also includes a packing tool which is pretty efficient in this regard so don't be afraid to use it.
After loading and replacing the lid, turn on the device by pressing on the power button 5 times and then select your temperature preset by holding down the power button until the LED indicators correspond to your preferred preset. The Pulsar Flow takes around 40 seconds to heat up after which a green LED will light up letting you know that the device has reached its target temperature. Enjoy vaping!
